Bojnourd
Overview
Bojnourd is the capital city of North Khorasan province, Iran. It is about 701 km (436 mi) from Tehran. The city of Bojnourd is situated in northeastern Iran, north of Alborz Mountain Range and south of Kappe Dagh Mountains. It is located 1070 meters above the sea level and is 821 kilometers away from the city of Tehran. In the northwestern corner of present day Bojnourd, there is an ancient hill, which has accommodated several historical works. The history of this city dates back to Sassanid era. In the post-Islamic era, this city was the homeland of several mystical figures, scientists, and Imamzadehs. Note that presence of a number of villages in the vicinity of this city that can be used as summer quarters have turned Bojnourd into a top tourist destination in Iran. More than 606 historical sites and monuments have been spotted and discovered in Northern Khorasan Province, in addition to several sites of pilgrimage and holy sites in the province. The tomb of Sultan Seyed Abbas in Bojnourd, the tomb of Khaje Ali Ibn Mahziari in Jaajarm, the Holy Shrine of Imamzadeh Hamzeh Reza in Shirvaan, and the Holy Shrine of Imamzadeh Ahmad Ibn Mousa in Esfaraayen are some of these holy sites, to name a few.
